Our Accomplishments
The Mustang Music Program has been helping area youth gain a supplementary music education experience since 2012, and has since mentored more than 85 local kids. Our program is like no other in the Outer Banks. Kids in the Mustang Outreach Program are not only learning to read, write and perform music; they are given the chance to show their stuff in front of large audiences throughout the year. It is an experience that they will remember for their lifetime.
The Mustang Outreach Program understands and appreciates the importance of working with other local and regional non-profits. Mustang Outreach Program bands have performed locally at such fundraising events as The Mustang Music Festival's Mustang Spring Jam and Mustang Rock & Roast (and the ORIGINAL Festival!), March of Dimes March for Babies, Artrageous, The Special Olympics, OBX ShredFest, The Outer Banks Seafood Festival and more.
Other fantastic opportunities the Mustang Outreach Program has afforded our youth include backstage presence at some of the most popular music events in the Outer Banks! Our program participants have done the setting up, taking down and everything in between at large music events such as The Mustang Music Festival, Soundside Live Concert Series, Outer Banks Summer Sendoff and the Food Truck Showdown. We have also worked with Dare County Arts Council in helping behind the scenes with Grammy Winning Artist, Terrance Simeon & the Zydeco Experice during their visit to Dare County Schools in 2018.
Also in 2018, some of our kids also got the chance to do a radio interview and introduce some bands in taped spots with Lisa Brickhouse at 99.1 FM. They got to go to the station and learn about what goes on that we don't see. It was an awesome experience for the youngest members of our program!
When the Mustang Outreach Program kids are old enough to go out on their own, and have practiced enough to really wow folks, many of our talented bands are hired to play locally at a variety of restaurants such as Mike Dianna's Grill Room, Thai Room, Waveriders Coffee & Deli, The Tap Shack, Coastal Cantina, and others.
Additionally, the program has presented music performances by Mustang Music Festival artists to multiple Dare County schools reaching the hearts and minds of over 600 local students. Our goal is to reach more kids and include neighboring counties.
